Apply to Our Residency Program

The Department of Family Medicine seeks individuals with strong communication and interpersonal skills---team players with a strong desire to become family physicians.

Canadian graduate applicants to the program must apply through CaRMS. Please see the CaRMS website for guidelines and requirements.

  • The process begins in the fall.
  • Applications are screened and selected applicants are invited for an interview.
  • Our Rural Track interviews are conducted at the same location and during the same time period in order to simplify your interview schedule.

Interview Information:

The interview day will commence with an information session by the Program Director followed by an informal interaction with residents available to answer any questions and provide their perspective on the program.

A continental breakfast and hot lunch will be served and social events are held for two or three nights during the interview period. Information on our learning sites will be made available in the hospitality room or you can access the same information on our Website under Education, Learning Sites. Tours of our academic teaching sites will also be arranged.

It is expected that your interview will last approximately 30 minutes

In Alberta, positions in the PGY1 CaRMS match are restricted to Canadian Medical Graduates in the first iteration.

International Medical Graduates who have been screened by the Alberta International Medical Graduate (AIMG) Program can apply in the second iteration.

Visit the AIMG website for more information.
