Electronic Workbook (eCBAS)

What is the Electronic Workbook?

  • An electronic portfolio--It stores and organizes documented observations of a resident's performance.

  • Web-based--It can be accessed by the resident or advisor at anytime where internet access is available.

  • A tool for reflection--on all the important habits, dimensions and roles of being a competent family doctor

What is the Electronic Workbook NOT?

  • NOT a logbook--Most of the documented observations will be observations and feedback given by an observer to the resident, not isolated learner opinions.
  • NOT the resident's official file or transcript--The CBAS workbook is separate from the resident file. The CBAS workbook includes evidence of achievement, but more often and importantly, provides evidence of learning-in-progress with many documented suggestions for improvement.

How it works

For Residents For Preceptors & Faculty Advisors
Residents can enter self-observations without an external observer. Preceptors & Faculty Advisors can enter FieldNotes.
They see their own CBAS electronic workbook. Preceptors see only the electronic FieldNotes they have created.
Advisors see the entire electronic workbook for their resident.

Using the "Follow-up" check box flags a FieldNote for further attention. It does NOT send a flag to the Program. If communication with the Program is required, please call or email.

Help Logging On and Finding Learner Names

  • The CBAS website address for your learning community, as well as a user name and password will be sent to you via email from the CBAS program secretary.
  • Save the appropriate CBAS website into your browser bookmarks.
  • When residents log in they are taken to their personal electronic workbook.
  • When advisors log in they are taken to the group website for the advisors in their community of learning.
  • The advisor then clicks on the address book beside the “Learner’s Name” field and selects the resident they wish from the drop down menu.
  • If the advisor or preceptor is working with a resident whose name is not in their own community of learning, the advisor can navigate to the “Global Site” where all learners are listed.
  • When preceptors who are not in a community of learning log in they will see a workbook that only contains the FieldNotes they have generated themselves.
