Competency Based Achievement System (CBAS)

Using CBAS has two purposes:

  • to help learners and teachers focus attention on relevant learning opportunities in clinical settings;
  • to increase documentation of learner performance to improve assessment of skill achievement.

Although opportunities for observation and interpretation of a resident’s performance can occur day to day, the formal reporting of a resident’s progress status is done at 4 month intervals using the 4-month progress report.

Advisors and residents will use the field notes and electronic workbook to the extent they find useful to improve the accuracy of the 4-month report.
